The eligibility criteria for the position of Scale I, II & III officers are as follows:
- The candidate must be a citizen of India/ a subject of Nepal/ a subject of Bhutan/ a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 Jan 1962 to permanently settle in India or who is of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam to permanently settle in India in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the government of India.

The selection for the position of Scale I, II & III Officer will be through a Preliminary and Main online examination, the pattern is as follows:
- The Preliminary examination pattern consists of 2 tests based on the following topics:
- Reasoning: The total no. of questions is 40 with a maximum mark of 40. The duration is 45 minutes (including test 2)
- Quantitative aptitude: The total no. of questions is 40, and the maximum mark is 40. The duration is 45 minutes (including test 1)
- The medium of the exam varies based on the location of the candidate. The total marks for this examination is 200 and a total of 2 hours duration is set. The main examination pattern consists of 5 tests based on the following topics:
- Reasoning: The total no. of questions is 40 with a maximum mark of 50.
- Computer knowledge: The total no. of questions is 40. The maximum mark is 20.
- General Awareness: The total no. of questions is 40. The maximum mark is 40
