Eligibility Criteria for the Indian Air Force AFCAT Exam 2024:
Age Limit: The age requirements for Flying Branch and Ground Duty staff are different. Check the information below regarding the age criteria for various branches:
- For Flying Branch and NCC Special Entry, applicants must be 20-24 years old by July 1, 2025 (born between July 2, 2001 and July 1, 2005).
- Ground Duty (Tech/Non-Tech): 20-24 Years on July 1, 2025 (birthdate, inclusive, between July 2, 1999 and July 1, 2005)
Education Criteria: The following table lists the educational prerequisites for applying to the AFCAT Examination by designation. Educational requirements for the various branches are as follows:

Flying Branch | Applicants who have completed their 12th class with 50% Marks each in Physics and Maths + Graduation with 60% marks can apply for this designation. |
Ground Duty (Technical) | Candidates who have passed their 12th class with 50% Marks each in Physics and Maths after completing their B.Tech degree with 60% marks can apply for these posts. |
Ground Duty (Non-Technical) | Candidates who have completed their Graduation degree in any stream with 60% marks can apply. |
NCC Special Entry | Applicants who have completed their Graduation degree and also have an NCC ‘C’ Certificate can apply for these posts. |
Application fee for the AFCAT Exam 2024:
- All the applicants have to pay a Rs.550 application fee amount for applying.
- The application fee for Special Entry to NCC is Rs. 0/-.
Mode of Payment: You must pay the application cost online. You can pay the application cost using credit/debit cards, internet banking, or UPI.
Selection Procedure for the AFCAT Exam 2024:
The written exam is waived for NCC Special Entry candidates. They will receive a direct call about the AFSB. The AFCAT 2 2024 selection process consists of the following steps:
Stage 1: Candidates will take the written test/assessment.
Stage 2: The Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) will conduct interviews for candidates who passed the first round of the AFCAT selection procedure.
All candidates who complete the standards for Stage 1 must attend AFSB Stage 2 and take the following tests:
Psychological Tests: Professional psychologists perform written psychological examinations.
Group Tests: Group tests examine candidates’ cognitive and motor ability, covering both mental and physical traits.
AFSB Interview: During the AFSB interview, the candidate is interviewed one-on-one by the interviewing officer.
Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) Test: Only Flying Branch applicants are needed to take the Computerised Pilot Selection System (CPSS) test.
Stage 3: Medical Evaluation: Those recommended will be contacted for a physical examination. The Indian Air Force recommends only two medical examination centers: the Institute of Aviation Medicine in Bengaluru and the Air Force Central Medical Establishment (AFCME). Following the medical examination, a final merit list will be established based on the candidate’s written and AFSB interview scores. Each shortlisted applicant will receive an acceptance letter from each training school to which they submitted.
